We are always interested in hearing from players of a high standard. We occasionally have vacancies and we often invite guests for concerts requiring a large number of players.  We particularly welcome string players from all sections.

There are no formal auditions but we tackle ambitious repertoire and perform with the top echelon of soloists in London's main concert halls, and we expect commitment and preparation from everyone. In return you will be coached by inspiring teachers and enjoy giving fantastic concerts. We also enjoy socialising in the pub after rehearsals and concerts.

The orchestra meets for around 5 rehearsals in central London, usually on the 4 Mondays before each concert and the Thursday in the final week. We usually start with a full run through of the programme, followed by string, wind and brass sectionals. The sectionals are coached by high standard players and conductors.

There is a subscription of £40 per player per major concert, £20 for the smaller-scale concerts, or £100 per season. There is a strict attendance policy for all rehearsals, and players are expected to be in good playing shape and to have learnt their part before the first rehearsal.

The orchestra has organised ‘away weekends’ to work on major repertoire, for instance Mahler 1st Symphony in Cambridge in September 2014 and Mahler 6th Symphony in September 2016.  In future years we are planning to replace these with a playday in London.
